EGIL HOVLAND FESTIVAL
- THE FREEDOM PORTAL -

Tiles made out of recycled glass: designed by school children, realised by a renowned glass artist, assembled with a metal construction.

This is our first project. At this year's Egil Hovland Festival in Fredrikstad  (egilhovlandfestivalen.no) it is planned to erect a portal dedicated to "Freedom" (Frihet), this year's motto of the Festival.

Servais Grivel is a Swiss glass https://www.servaisgrivel.com/ , living since 2014 in Fredrikstad, where he built his glass art studio. During Summer, he was asked by the Festival's Committee to present an artwork dedicated to the Festival motto, and so the idea for the Frihets Portal was born.

The Portal is made using the beautiful drawings of the children from Trara Skole. Servais Grivel translated them into glass tiles, which together build the heart and the soul of the Portal. Each tile is made of recycled glass from old windows, and metal oxydes to make them shine and shimmer. All the tiles together build an unique art work, where every child and adult can see that together we can create true beauty.
